MAP students join New Brighton Silver band

This year, ten young men from the New Zealand Army Band’s Mutual Assistance Programme (MAP), joined the Band .
These young men are part of the Mutual Assistance Programme (MAP), run by the New Zealand Army Band School of Music. The ten-month course is designed to enhance students’ musical theory and performance, strengthening music education throughout the South-West and Indo-Pacific Region. Sergeant Cam Lee (our musical director) has managed the programme since 2022, where he has enabled the MAP students to join a civilian band and New Brighton is the fortunate host Band. They attend all practices, are registered with New Brighton, and participate in all band functions, including contests and road trips. The MAP students are an integral part of New Brighton Silver band and while being in a civilian band may stimulate their development it also has a similar effect on New Brighton band members. The range and style of music the band plays, the attention to detail and good fellowship has become a Mutual Assistance Programme at a different level.
